flying saucer attack’s self-titled debut album, released in 1993, was commonly known as ‘rural psychedelia’ – an apt description for the rough-hewn soundscapes they crafted. these bedroom recordings made a virtue of the otherworldly, hissy mechanics of four-track cassette-to-vinyl duplication. pearce realised that you didn’t need to layer 16 guitar tracks in an expensive studio to make a big noise. recording directly on to a four-track resulted in a thick, distorted, abrasive sound that suited his needs perfectly.

loft records returns after a fruitful year to kick-start 2017 with three infectious cuts from rising irish talent hammer. the belfast-born producer is well known for his lauded releases on feel my bicep (in collaboration with the label founders) as well as optimo music but production isn t his only facet. hammer has shared dj booths with the likes of hunee, sasha, midland, craig richards and nd_baumecker, whether at his residency at sub club or at his many gigs throughout europe. with loft recordings reflecting on a prosperous 2016, including a class two track release from isaac tichauer, followed by a chart topping remix package featuring hackman, dorsia, lancelot and bicep, hammer s innovative contribution to the imprint looks to follow suit. soaring pads and intricate drums form the overall aesthetic of canna but as the track progresses serene melodies and subtle snare rolls come together to form a harmonious eruption of synths. manaka then shifts to syncopated percussion and spectral nuances before man ray delivers distorted atmospherics and twisted chord sequences to conclude the package.

jann arrives on pinkman with a soundtrack of breathless panic, an ode to a blighted world of diesel fumes and indifference. rhythms are grizzly, gored and torn. thick chords judder, revving like a clapped-out engine as metal slashes at savaged snares. acid scorn is poured on this inhospitable world, amplified by the haze of distortion that clouds jann s hard and cold vision.

after his successful ‘i’m made of stars’ lp last year, michele pinna brings his time traveler moniker back to his chronicles diary imprint with ‘chapter v: chronicles from 1957’. following the label’s concept ‘chapter v’ is dedicated to his mother anna maria and time is being stretched back to her birth, where past and future seem to collide through time traveler’s dystopian vision of techno. a1 opens the ep with an industrial killer groove and time traveler’s distorted vocals prompting to follow him in an out of control journey. a2 rushes in with a more mental and compulsive beat, where synths and percussions converge. on the flip side, we find b1 infused with hypnotic modular melodies and intense rolling analog grooves. b2 concludes time traveler’s journey with its finally crafted, hammering beats, ecstatic bass synths and drum patters.

aaaron is a producer that s been on our radar for a long time. as demonstrated by his beautiful and stripped back recent work for connected, aaaron s tracks have developed a certain maturity that has become impossible to ignore. following that signature style, the grooves on black arp, his debut ep for yoshitoshi, flow smartly from his experiences in berlin s minimal techno/tech house scene. never too abrupt or intense, black arp and keep doin it are versatile tracks for many different atmospheres and set styles. like much of his music, the percussion throughout features elements of tribal house, producing a playful energy and an extra level of accessibility. additionally, we re very excited to welcome dj t., another respected berliner who really needs no introduction, to the label for the first time. he gives the ep a rough edge with this remix of black arp. the distorted synth leads and stabs here filter in and out over a driving tech house groove, giving the release a peak-time option for those in need.

alex cortex delivering the heat!! mr cortex is kicking hard with a direct and mental techno tracks! oscillon, a1, is a bleepy affair, direct and repetitive, but please, play it loud and watch. rheometric is in the same alley as oscillon but bringing the bleeps and glitches trip even more in your face. combined with the fat but quirky bassline, it does the peak time techno thing extremely well. b1 s title -shear wave- does the track justice. backed by a fat downtempo beat, the distorted 303-reminiscent synth line cuts through the mix in a way that s impossible to ignore. strain rate tensor rounds up the previous three cuts, also in a very dancefloor-friendly manner. bubbly main lead and anxiety-inducing pad sneaking in the background seem to be the main thing, until another synth hits you as a counterpoint and flips everything upside down. proper no-nonsens stuff!!

matuss returns to her absence seizure imprint february 2017 with ‘seizure no.6, comprising four original compositions from the new york based artist. since launching the absence seizure imprint in 2015 alongside producer friend abe duque, new yorks matuss has carved out an impressive back-catalogue with this new release marking its sixth and previous material garnering the attention of acts like derek plaslaiko, beaner, dj deep, twr72 and norman methner. once again julia matuss, better known as simply matuss, is at the controls to deliver four original compositions, the first of which la folie sees her deliver a haunting slice of tension building techno via throbbing bass, organic percussion hits and subtly evolving distorted rhythms. muirr follows and takes a more reserved strip back approach with swirling bass tones and sparse drums gradually building towards a frenzied fusion of psychedelic synth swells, vocal stabs and acidic hits. opening the flip side of the record is i hate valentines day, a murky five-minute number employing mind-bending low end drones, dynamic off-kilter percussion and sweeping atmospherics before acid slay closes, and as the name would suggest lays focus on tripped-out acid licks alongside chugging bass and minimalistic drums.

fat synths, distorted guitars, punchy drums and hypnotic bass hooks - dance music improvisations created and recorded during one studio session by mtjunker - a 3-piece band with a punk attitude.

new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.

die orangen, aka aussie producers dreems & kris baha are teaming up for the first time with 2 new unreleased jams under their new alias. slow and atmospheric, yet punching and grooving die orangen managed to meltdown genres into 100bpm 11 minute long trippy trancey bonanza with a substantial amount of jungle psychedelia and heavy drum machines. one day in sheperton is a more drum oriented industrial power house tune. with the diggerido and distorted voices coming in towards its 2nd half. this ep includes, as expected from the malka tuti crew, with awesome remixes by italian maestros fabrizio mamarella (of slow motion records) and alessandro adriani (of mannequin records), oodandatta rain is an ep that throws the listener back to the early days of partying in anjuna beach, when trance was not yet a genre, but a state of mind, and where the tribal element could be found in all sorts of bizzarre contexts and remote corners.

after heating up with sign bit zero s second release with wosto and label boss kilian krings, sign bit zero is now continuing with some edits by murray cy, the label honcho of contort yourself. the next release contains strictly rough tape material of old and forgotten cassettes from the eighties with a wide range from weird obscurites to strongly distorted material. listen!

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

with its tenth dmt release, philippe petit drops energovill, a big room techno bomb driven by a repetitive synth pad and a dreamy distorted saxophone line that will leave nobody indifferent. philippe then strips down the track even more to deliver a dub oriented, beat-heavy version of the track. on the other side, ubx127, from the figure stable, is on remix duties: he takes the key elements from philippe s versions and turns the title track into an unforgiving minimal techno attack. philippe closes the ep and reworks energovill once again, this time into a melodic, atmospheric and dreamy beatless version.

mono junk’s cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. ‘vector plant’ is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut ‘almost there’ is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junk’s turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. ‘feeling or destroy’ is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, “our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors – static light cd 2002” and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.
